Visible from afar, the neo-Gothic church tower of St. Petri stands out above the Garden Realm and marks the heart of the UNESCO World Heritage Site in W\u00f6rlitz. The brick tower measures 66 meters and was probably the last major construction project in W\u00f6rlitz Park under Prince Franz. <\/p>\n

History<\/div>

Neo-Gothic as a commitment to tradition<\/h4>\t\t\t\t\t\t

St. Peter’s Church is much older than W\u00f6rlitz Park. It was consecrated as early as 1200. However, it was only between 1805 and 1809, under the supervision of Georg Christoph Hesekiel, that it was given its present appearance: As a red brick building, decorated with neo-Gothic forms and tracery, it has towered over W\u00f6rlitz ever since. <\/p>\n

A stone sarcophagus in the churchyard, which is surrounded by neo-Gothic buildings: the princess’s house<\/a>, the stables and the kitchen building, is a reminder of the former cemetery. An impressive architectural ensemble and the earliest of its kind in Germany!
