W\u00f6rlitzer Park has many surprises in store. This is also the case with the Gothic House. With its pointed arches, battlements and tracery elements, it seems to come from the Middle Ages – while its two different facades are reminiscent of England and Italy. The front facing the Wolf Canal is modelled on the Venetian church of Madonna dell’Orto, while the garden side impresses in the style of English Tudor Gothic. And the interior of the building also enchants with medieval charm, deep symbolism and great art. <\/p>\n

"in the midst of his glorious ancestors"<\/h4>\t\t\t\t\t\t

At the time, it was considered an architectural novelty in Germany: neo-Gothic architecture. In contrast to classicism, it is the second prominent architectural style in the Garden Realm and represents Prince Franz’s commitment to his own tradition and his family’s history. The Gothic House is the highlight of this connection. <\/p>\n

According to the specifications of the prince and designs by Friedrich Wilhelm von Erdmannsdorff and Georg Christoph Hesekiel, it was built from 1773 and redesigned several times until 1813. The Gothic House was initially intended to serve as an apartment for the court gardener Schoch. Our peacocks<\/h4>\t\t\t\t\t\t

Free-roaming colorful peacocks have always been part of the staged garden pictures of W\u00f6rlitz Park. With their imposing plumage, they enchant the guests. The beautiful animals are particularly common at the Gothic House. e windows of the Gothic House are covered with over 200 stained glass windows. These colorful glasses not only create an impressive spatial effect when the sun shines in. No, each of the fine glasses is a small work of art. Works by almost all Swiss masters of stained glass from the 15th to 17th centuries are represented in this unique collection. <\/p>\n

The depictions range from Bible stories to secular images such as coats of arms.
